GREEN OFFICE SPACE
Location: Bankstown
Type: Interior design
PROJECT BRIEF
With today’s technology meaning better flexibility in the workspace, designing an office that ensures a comfortable environment is more important. Sustainable commercial spaces are not only for the energy cost but also help to boost the employees’ wellness and productivity. Making green improvements to office design has become a fashionable trend worldwide in recent years.
In 2019, team Bato Studio received a brief to design an environmental-friendly office space in Bankstown. The current office was outdated with enclosed working cubicles and secluded meeting spaces. The client wanted an open layout with plenty of sunlight and low maintenance. As a result, team Bato Studio recommended our client incorporate a hanging garden into the new design. Hanging gardens have been applied in interior design to improve the appearance of nature indoors. Additionally, the maintenance cost and effort would be minimal with automatic water supplies and incorporated waste collection.
Besides, the finishes of the interior were environmental-friendly such as treated wood, carpet, and plants. Instead of concrete or fixed partition walls, we utilized plants as space dividers. The plants would help to soften the spaces and increase the flexibility of the open layout. Two types of carpets were chosen to highlight differences between the traffic zones and working spaces. Both of these solutions will help to create the boundary between zones without the need for a solid wall surface.
This project illustrates one of our most important philosophies – incorporating nature into our design. Therefore, the greenery will help relieve stress and increase our productivity.
