Introducing the “National NAIDOC Awards” at Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre, a celebration where design and cultural significance converge! Our partner Clint envisioned a captivating event space that would honor the rich heritage, history, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This annual event, held during NAIDOC Week, became a vibrant tribute to Indigenous excellence. Reflecting the 2023 theme, For Our Elders, the ceremony paid heart felt homage to elders as custodians of knowledge, trailblazers, advocates, and leaders who have shaped and nurtured their communities.

The stage design stood as a bold testament to the strength and resilience of Indigenous culture. Measuring an impressive 16×7 meters, the stage was illuminated by striking triangular LED light structures, embodying a sense of unity and purpose. These elements, carefully crafted to resonate with the event’s vision, created a visually arresting centerpiece that perfectly complemented the awards’ mission.

Triangular LED lights harmonized with 20 radiant ball lights positioned along the back of the stage, in front of six LED screens. Comprising four sleek panel strips and two larger displays, the screens framed the stage, amplifying the visual storytelling. This synchronized interplay of lighting and structure created a seamless and dynamic experience, with the lighting adjusted to match the mood and colors of each performance. The thoughtful choreography of light and sound ensured that every moment resonated with the audience, leaving a lasting impression of awe and admiration.

At the heart of the stage stood the lectern, the focal point for inspiring speeches from leaders, advocates, and community members. Here, voices were amplified, stories shared, and legacies celebrated, making the event a powerful tribute to the cultural contributions and resilience of Indigenous communities.

This two-month-long project showcased the synergy of cultural authenticity and design expertise. Collaborating with Clint, we transformed the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre into an extraordinary space of celebration and reverence, ensuring the National NAIDOC Awards 2023 became a truly unforgettable experience.
