HAMPTON TOUCHES IN A HERITAGE HOUSE

PROJECT BRIEF
Working with a heritage house is one of the most challenging types of projects for any designer. This time, team Bato Studio has received a brief from our client – Mr & Mrs. Solanski – to provide interior design to the additional area of a heritage house. The new extension is neatly hidden behind the original house. It also allows the space for a bigger living room and master bedroom.
Firstly, the clients informed our team that their house is heritage listed, hence, they would like to reflect the house’s legacy in our design. Besides, they also wanted a smooth flow between the old and the new area with similar color schemes and details. However, the heritage law required the addition to be identifiable, which could pose a challenge to our design. The client also preferred an open-plan layout with a simple and clean line in the design.
After receiving the instructions from our client, team Bato studio set about designing a new layout to incorporate a stylish and functional home. The lower ground floor includes a master bedroom with an ensuite, two small bedrooms for the children, a family room, and a bathroom with a separate toilet. The upper floor plan is considered the new heart of the home with the kitchen, living room, dining room, and an additional powder room. The large sliding doors open the living and dining area to the backyard with plenty of sunlight and airy breezes during Queensland summer.
To let the intricate heritage details of the home shine, we utilize contrasting material with minimalist furniture lines to create a modern form of the interior. On the other hand, the neutral color scheme with a retained archway and ceiling details provides a cohesive transition between the old house and the new addition.
