PROJECT BRIEF
Recycling containers by converting them into domestic dwellings is a challenging experience for our team. Designing a house from steel boxes poses technical and aesthetical issues during development.
Our client requested us to reuse two existing containers from the sites as part of the newly developed house. The foundation system (pier and footing) would be more complicated to ensure the solidarity of the whole building. Additionally, the design of the container house must satisfy the aesthetic requirements and avoid tedious box shapes.
Although it may sound complicated, we have been working on modules and houses on the pier for several years. It is a significant advantage that allows us to be creative and satisfy the technical requirements.
Firstly, we placed two containers at the side of the house. This solution would allow us to maintain the balance of the whole structure. Through attentive calculation, we divided the load equally for the house and two containers through the modular system of piers and footings. In addition, we also rotated the right wing to 30 degrees to create a more unique and attractive façade. The rotated annex would also make the entrance more inviting. In the interior, after the entrance, living and dining rooms were located at the heart of this house. The living and dining zone had double ceiling heights that allowed natural lighting and ventilation to the whole house.
This house reflects one of the fundamental points in our philosophy – delivering simplicity to our design.
